This is one of the most frequent questions I get, “Why a laundromat?”.
I admit, I am a little strange…I have always loved doing laundry. That sense of accomplishment and feeling and smell of freshly laundered clothing, bedding, and household items. AHHHH. I like the smell of fabric softener, bleach, and detergent. Having successfully raised my children to adulthood, I was already experienced in the laundry process, cleaning stubborn stains, the need to send my kids to school and my husband and me to work in clean clothes, and appreciated the need for safe, clean, and friendly laundry facilities for both self service and drop off or wash/dry/fold customers.
I’d lived in Wichita for over 30 years but not much had changed in the way laundries were built and run. Most customers are women, yet they were designed and run by men. (Actually, that is true nationwide, heck, worldwide!) Yeah the employees would mostly be women, but the way they were run were the same: hire apathetic employees, be wary of the customers, and complacent about the business.
I wanted to change that: Be different, professional, and not just raise the measurement bar but BE the bar for laundry service. And the way to do that was to build The Laundry Station: a big, beautiful facility right smack in the middle of Wichita Kansas.
So yeah, I guess that makes me a little crazy…but in a good way! 🙂
